Do you ever feel that if you don’t fit into the box of societal norms like something is wrong with you?
Understanding firsthand what this is like, having never felt like I fit in, I’m telling you that your perception can be changed.
I stopped wondering “why” a long time ago and started enjoying being who I was created to be.
Many times, the people who have had the greatest accomplishments in life have done so with not being part of the “In” crowd.
I’m guessing this is where the saying “It’s lonely at the top,” came from.
Let’s think about this for a moment, that means we have things in common with Nicola Tesla, Albert Einstein and Helen Keller.
Since that’s the case, I’m proud to be different.
However, if you are wondering how you can see things so that it doesn’t make you feel unwanted, unloved and lonely at times, I suggest you continue reading.
Created to be Unique.
Each of us was created to bring something special to the world.
Made to be different.
I know it sounds totally cliché to say it, and it’s true.
Not one of us on this planet of 7.53 billion people is the same.
To be honest it would be super strange if there were that many people who were wandering the Earth looking and thinking the same.
It would also be boring AF.
What would we have to talk about?
How would we tell the difference between one another?
Seriously, it would be like eating and every meal you eat tastes exactly the same.
I can’t even imagine how torturous that would be.
The truth is that it’s like this for all of us.
So, why on Earth do we look for the sameness in others?
This next section will shed a little light on that for you.
Break free from the pack.
Have you ever been driving on the freeway in a crowd of cars?
You see the clearing ahead, and no one seems to be letting anyone pass, as a matter of a fact, no one is trying to pass.
The controller in me goes batshit crazy.
Then I remember, this is what we do.
Humans are pack animals.
We do what everyone else is doing, if not we face judgment and outcast.
Individuals don’t dare stray from the pack.
Until, wait…what’s that guy doing??? Ummm…hmmm, maybe I should try that?
We stay stagnant until we see someone else inspire us to do what we could have done all along in our own way.
With 7.53 billion people on this planet, we were not created to be the same.
We are created to expand, push the envelope and be individuals.
What if by bringing my special talents to you and the world I am helping us all to expand?
I truly believe that is the case, and fear holds us back.
People won’t like me.
I might fail.
We can’t stand the fact that we might not look good.
Gosh, I feel like I’m about to be the bearer of bad news…these things are already happening.
My success rate in life may be 100% but of the people I know, maybe only 85% of them like me.
Failure is an option, because we learn from it and get better when we do it again. It happens.
There are days when I don’t get out of my gym clothes or get so engrossed in work I don’t stop to bathe.
Everyone has days like that.
And people see me that way sometimes, trust me when I tell you I don’t look good all the time.
So, what is really holding us back?
It’s the way we think about being different than everyone else.
Being different is a good thing, and we still don’t see it that way.
Our sameness connects us, so that we come together to create something different in our experience.
We each have unique gifts to give this world and in doing so we all support one another in flourishing those gifts.
Humans are meant to continue to grow, not stay stagnant.
And who cares if we are different than the Jones’.
Express yourself as only you can, we all need you to grow.
Your difference makes a difference.
Conclusion
You are so special.
A unique version of us.
Humans.
The silliest thing you can be afraid of is yourself.
